How To Treat For Rodents Near Blythewood, SC

February 12, 2019

Blythewood is a small town in Richland and Fairfield counties with an estimated population of 3,429 residents.  It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina, and Metropolitan statistical area. It used to be called Doko, at a time when the Doko Depot supplied water for the steam engines here.  One of the main sources of livelihood here remains to be agriculture, and residents buy locally from the harvest of the land.

It is located just outside Columbia SC, and just an hour away from Charlotte, making Blythewood an ideal residential place for those who want a peaceful, small-town living for their families.  Blythewood is also an easy commute on I-77, making it ideal for businesses too.

The increase in the human population apparently has also attracted many pests, including rodents.  Is the presence of pests a sign of progress? It could be, but it shouldn’t be. Rodents, aside from being disgusting, are disease carriers.  The diseases they carry include leptospirosis, rat-bite fever, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, Lassa Fever, plague, Hanta Virus Pulmonary Syndrome, and Salmonellosis.  So you see, you would not want to tolerate living with them. You should get rid of them.

How to get rid of them?  Here are some tips to get rid of these rodents:

  1. Seal holes inside and outside the home.  Mice are so tiny they can squeeze themselves into a hole the size of a nickel.   Look for these small gaps under, inside, and behind kitchen cabinets, around doors and windows, near pipes, under the sinks, around the foundation, and anywhere you think there could be holes they can squeeze into.
  2. Use traps.  Trap the rodents to reduce their population.  Use a snap trap. Before setting the trap you just purchased, be safe, and read the instructions carefully.  As bait, you can use peanut butter the size of a pea. Place the snap trap beside the wall because as you may have noticed, mice love to crawl right next to a wall.
  3. Eliminate their food and water source.  After all, food is the main reason why rodents are in your homes.  They forage for food, your food. Place food in sealed containers. Food in boxes will not cut it, they can easily nibble on the boxes.   This will also prevent the mice from contaminating your food.
  4. Clean up.  Clean up on spilled food and liquids.  Clean cooking areas and grill. Dispose of your trash regularly.
